Starting pitcher Jason Carr struck out a dozen batters in four-plus innings, and also hit a double and scored three runs, as the Braves defeated the Cardinals 11-6 in the Crown City Little League Major Division baseball championship game Sunday at Testa Park.
The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Braves grabbed the advantage in the bottom of the inning and never trailed again. Ian Gacek gave the Braves some breathing room with a three-run triple in the bottom of the second inning. Tyler Blake delivered his first home run with a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Blake was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs for the day. Evan Shank (double) and Fred Ott, Jr. also swung 2-for-3 bats.
The Cardinals were led by Andrew Partigianoni who was 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored. Jarrod Bush went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs while Nate West was 2-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored.
Cardinals 6, Giants 5: The Cardinals advance to the title game with a hard-fought 6-5 victory in eight innings over the Giants Saturday.
Jacob Moran got a double in the bottom of the eighth inning and moved to third base on a single by Andrew Partigianoni. Moran would score on a passed ball for the win.
Luciano DeVito (3-for-3) drilled a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull the Cardinals even at 5-5 and force extra innings. It was his second home run of the game.
Partigianoni was 3-for-4 for the Cardinals with Jack Chevalier going 2-for-3 with a triple.
Partigianoni struck out nine batters to earn the win while starter Matt Lipfert fanned seven batters.
Constantine Souzas and Aaron Wehnke each swung 2-for-3 bats for the Giants. Josh Hardesty added a home run. Hardesty struck out six batters before giving way to Scott Hourigan who recorded five strikeouts.
IN THE MINOR DIVISION playoffs, the Mets will meet the Orioles Thursday in the semifinals while the Marlins and Diamondbacks meet in the other semifinal that night. Both games start at 6 p.m. The Minor Division title game will be Saturday at 2 p.m.
