Aaron Kelchner of Cortland High grabs the leg of Justin Marullo of Auburn in the 132-pound bout. Kelchner won the match 12-6 Wednesday night.

The Cortland High wrestling team improved to 5-1 on the season and senior Dakoatah Miller reached a milestone Wednesday night as the Purple Tigers scored a 41-33 non-league win over visiting Auburn.

After taking a match off to save the occasion for the home folks, Miller was a bit frustrated being handed a forfeit at 182 pounds for his 100th career win. He has pinned 47 opponents and has lost only 34 matches in his career with the Purple Tigers.

A third place finisher at sectionals a year ago, Miller is an unbeaten 5-0 with three pins so far this season.

Senior Dane George had the quickest pin of the night for CHS, flattening Eric Ansteth in just 43 seconds at 138 to improve to 5-1 with two pins this season and up his career mark to 112-89 with 43 pins. Junior Bali Cornell needed 2:21 to pin Alex Ansteth at 152 and move to 4-2 on the season. Junior Jack Davie is now 6-0 after pinning Jared Haviland in 2:32 at 195.

Kiegan Brown scored a 15-0 technical fall over Hunter Dugar at 145 in a battle of sectional place-winners from last season and is 6-0 with three pins, improving his career record of 117-46 with 49 points.

Decisions went to Cortland junior Aaron Kelchner, who is now 6-0, at 132 and junior Brandon Batsford (3-3) at 170. Also winning by forfeit was Gildon Case (3-2) at 113.

— After a year’s absence, the Cortland Dual Meet Tournament will take place Saturday in both the upstairs and downstairs gyms at CHS starting at 10 a.m.

All six teams involved will go against each of the other five during the course of the day. In addition to the Purple Tigers, the field also includes Beacon (Section 1), Fayetteville-Manlius, Fulton, Pittsford (Section 5) and Vestal (Section 4).

Trojans Handle Rebels

PARISH — Homer Central wrestlers had a successful start to their regular season dual meet campaign on Wednesday evening.

The Trojans won nine matches while coming away with a 51-30 victory over hosting Altmar-Parish-Williamstown in a non-league outing, breaking open a close match with four consecutive wins during the middle of the proceedings.

The Trojans are off to a 5-1 start to the season, those four previous wins coming this past Saturday at the More Than a Game Duals in Chittenango.

After giving up a pin and getting a forfeit handed to 99-pounder Sean Powers, the Trojans took the lead when Zachary Duff pulled out a 12-10 decision over Alex Currie in the 106-pound match. Nick Rice followed with the evening’s quickest fall at 113, pinning his foe in just 22 seconds.
After A-P-W came up with a pair of victories to even the team score at 15-15, the Trojans pulled away starting with Noah Thomas (132) and Collin Cronk (138) having their hands raised for forfeit victories. Charles Lines picked up a first period pin at 145 and Peter Davis won by disqualification at 152, enabling the Trojans to build up 39-15 advantage.

Homer added two more pins, by Paul Morse at 170 and Anthony Parker at 220, to secure the victory over the Rebels.

The Trojans are back in action on Saturday, competing in the Otselic Valley Viking Duals.
