Youth Hockey: Pee Wee Travel Team tripped in title game

The North Frankllin Shamrocks scored on a power play in the second overtime Sunday to edge the H&H Financial Group Pee Wee Travel Team from Cortland 4-3 in the championship game of the Tier III 12U State Tournament.

Ben McGrath (who also had an assist), Andrew Partigianoni and Hunter Everle scored to give Cortland a 3-1 lead after the first period. North Franklin scored twice in the second and the teams played through a scoreless third and a first overtime before the deciding goal in the second extra session.

Goalie Garrett Clark made 39 saves for Cortland.

The Cortland squad reached the title contest with a 4-3 overtime win over the New York City Skyliners earlier on Sunday as Logan Swartz ended the game with a shot from the top of the circle. New York City led 2-0 after one period but after a Cortland rally scored with 39 seconds left in regulation to tie the game.

In addition to Swartz’s decisive tally, Gabby Cranfield had a goal and two assists while Partigianoni and Ben McGrath each had a goal and an assist. Clark made 28 saves.

Cortland opened play on Friday with a 7-4 win over palisades as Partigianoni had two goals and two assists, Braden Marsh scored twice, Swartz had a goal and an assist and Cranfield and Everle scored once each. lark stopped 24 shots.

Saranac/Lake Placid shaded Cortland 4-3 later on Friday as Partigianoni had a goal and an assist, Marsh and McGrath scored once each and Clark made 26 saves.

Cortland advanced to the semifinals with a 4-3 win over Jamestown on Saturday. McGrath had two goals and an assist, Partigianoni a goal and two assists and Chris Yang one goal while Clark totaled 22 saves.

BANTAM

The Computing Center squad went 0-3 in the Pepsi Invitational Tournament in Amherst over the weekend. Nolan Small scored twice and Logan Griffin once in a 4-3 loss to the Southtown Stars on Friday. Adam Howser was the Cortland goalie for all three games, with no save totals reported for any of the contests.

Dylan Correia led the way with four goals and an assist and Steven Skjarum had four goals Saturday as the Oakville Raiders and goalie Christian Toris blanked Cortland 11-0.

Small had a goal and an assist and Ericka Oplinger one goal Sunday in a 10-2 loss
to Southern Hills Amateur Hockey Association.
