Cortland led 4-1 after the first quarter, expanded the advantage to 7-2 at halftime and took an 11-5 lead into the fourth quarter.
“I’m very happy with how we came out and played tonight,” Cortland coach Sean Mack said. “I wish we would have finished the game a little cleaner, but we’ll always take a solid win like that. Rory, Brandon, and Alex all found the net multiple times and Pat and Logan were feeding the ball well. Pallone and the defense really clamped down early and allowed us to get a good lead going into the fourth.
“We had our moment in the fourth where we allowed some late goals and gave them some momentum but it was great to see our guys weather the storm and fight off Chittenango. You have to give respect to Chittenango; they fought until the end and made us earn our win.
“This win is huge for us and our arrow is pointing up right now,” Mack continued. “We really are peaking at a great time. We need to win one out of our last two games and we’re in the playoffs, and what’s better is that we have momentum going into the end of our season. All you can ask is to get in the playoffs when you’re hot and see where the chips fall after that. I’m proud of the growth these young men have shown lately.”
