Five sectional champions for Trojans

SYRACUSE – Five members of the Homer girls’ track and field team put together winning efforts and can be called Section 3, Class A champions after the championship meet concluded at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena.
Jekeytha Adkins won the 55-meter hurdles in individual competition. Erica Stevens, Erin Leach, McKayla Crawford and Jade Auchmoody were the members of the championship 1,600-meter relay team.
The Trojan girls finished in third place after totaling 60 points. Jamesville-DeWitt took the team title with 147 points, while Westhill-Bishop Ludden edged out the Trojans for second-place with 65 points. East Syracuse-Minoa (56) and New Hartford (55) rounded out the top five. Mexico (52), Fulton (20) and Oneida (8) rounded out the team scoring.
Homer boys placed seventh with 19 points. Westhill-Bishop Ludden won the team championship with 121 points. Jamesville-Dewitt (111), Mexico (71), New Hartford (57) and East Syracuse-Minoa (36) rounded out the top-five boys’ teams. Fulton (28) also finished ahead of the Trojans with Oneida (16) behind Homer.
Adkins won the Class A championship with a time of 9.03 seconds. She also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 15-feet-9.25 inches and fourth in the triple jump (30.5).
Stevens got the 1,600 team out in good shape with her 1:06.2 split in her 400m leg. Leach delivered a 1:06.1 second leg, Crawford clocked a personal best 1:06.2 in her third leg and Auchmoody anchored the team with a season best 1:03.4 leg. The team’s winning time was 4:22.
Other top-six finishes were posted by Auchmoody in the pole vault (2nd, 8-0), Stevens (4th, 46.25) and Leach (6th, 46.43) in the 300m dash, Molly Ulrich in the pole vault (5th, 7-0) and Emily Harrington in both the high jump (5th, 4-9) and 55m dash (6th, 8.2) for individual competition. Ulrich tied the freshman class record in the pole vault.
Crawford (2:37.9), Rachel Murray (2:40), Alexis Settineri (2:44.7) and Auchmoody (2:29) posted a third-place time of 10:31.77 in the 3,200m relay.
Stevens (28.7), Lucy Connery (30.6), Grace Gugerty (30.3, personal best) and Harrington (29.0) posted a fourth-place time of 1:58.79 in the 800m relay.
The Trojans found their best success in the relays.
Joshua Thompson (59.7), Nick Yarnell (56.3, personal best), Anthony Pilcher (56.6, season best) and Jeremy Morris (53.9, season best) placed third (3:46.56) in the 1,600m relay.
Christian Pittsley (26.3, personal best), Yarnell (25.4), Robby Johnson (28.1) and Morris (24.3, season best) grabbed fourth place in the 800m relay with a clocking of 1:44.40.
Pilcher (2:22.8), Alex Fisher (2:18.1, personal best), Freideric Handelmann (2:30, personal best) and Luke Tesoriero (2:19.5) posted a fifth-place time of 9:30.76 in the 3,200m relay.
Individual top-six efforts came of Dylan Shattuck (5th, 7.06) in the 55m dash, Johnson (5th, 9.44, new junior class record) in the 55m hurdles and Yarnell (6th, 37-4) in the triple jump.
Next up will be the NYS Qualifier Wednesday at the SRC Arena beginning at 4:30 p.m. Jekeytha Adkins, Jade Auchmoody and Erin Leach will represent the Trojans in this final step before the State Meet.
