Dragons NCAA starting time set

SUNY Cortland men will take their second step in the NCAA Division III basketball tournament this coming Saturday afternoon, as Middlebury College from Vermont pays a visit to Corey Gymnasium.
That second-round game between nationally-ranked squads — Cortland (24-4) ranked 23rd and Middlebury (23-3) seventh in last week’s Division III poll — is a 3 p.m. start. A new national poll will be released today.
SUNY Athletic Conference regular season and playoff champion Cortland got the post-season underway with a 85-59 win over Elms College this past Saturday. That 24th victory tied a school record as the Red Dragons improved to an unbeaten 13-0 on their home court.
Middlebury, out of the New England Small School Athletic Conference, was a 68-66 home court winner over Curry to get the NCAAs underway this past weekend. The Cortland-Middlebury winner advances to the third round to face the winner of the game sending Ithaca (20-8) to Rochester (22-4) this Saturday.
SUNYAC runner-up Plattsburgh is also still alive in the NCAA tournament, though the Cardinals have a tough second round challenge awaiting. After beating Husson 84-63, the Plattsburgh heads to Massachusetts Saturday to face a top-seeded Amherts (25-2) squad that received a first round bye.
