NJCAA Women’s Basketball: TC3’s Washington All-Region pick

DRYDEN — Tompkins Cortland CC freshman women’s basketball standout Jaida Washington has been named to the All-NJCAA Region III Division 3 second team for the 2016-17 season.

Washington, the seventh Panther women’s player to earn All-Region III honors, was voted to the second team by the region’s coaches. A total of 16 players over three squads were honored.

Washington had previously been named to the Mid-State Athletic Conference all-conference team. She led the nation in blocked shots, averaging 6.5 per game, and was third in the region in rebounds with 13.7 per game. She had two triple-doubles — the first two in program history — and finished the season with 11 other double-doubles. She also set school records for rebounds and blocked shots in a season.

The All-Region first team includes Player of the Year Cheyenne Clark from Mohawk Valley CC, Amber Edwards from Corning CC, Myeesa Grant from Fulton-Montgomery CC, Tanisha Edge from Columbia-Greene CC, Sam Britton from Onondaga CC and Romeira Tucker from North Country CC. Finger Lakes CC’s Kelly Broderick is the Coach of the Year.

Joining Washington on the second team are Anna Farahane from Broome CC, Jordan Vaught from Onondaga CC, Janae Brannon from Finger Lakes CC and Kadijah Jones from Mohawk Valley CC.

The third team consists of Jazmin Diggs from Herkimer County CC, Krystal Hunter from Finger Lakes CC, Riley Luckie from Jefferson CC, Gianna Locker from Mohawk Valley CC and Briana McKinney from Adirondack CC.
