Job duties: Taney covers Cortland High and Central Counties League teams.
Education: AAS in Liberal Arts from Morrisville State, 1975; BA in communications (broadcasting & journalism) from University of Tennessee, 1977.
About: Taney grew up in Morrisville and started his professional career in broadcasting as the news director/sports color commentator at WSCP in Sandy Creek/Pulaski and WATN in Watertown, and the north country reporter for WSYR in Syracuse. He moved to the newspaper business in 1980 as a sportswriter with the Hornell Evening Tribune and joined the Auburn Citizen’s sports department in 1983. He was a stringer for the Syracuse Post Standard & Herald-Journal, the Utica Observer-Dispatch and Blue Lines Hockey Newsletter from 1993 to 1998, when he joined the Cortland Standard. Married and the father of one daughter, he enjoys reading, listening to music and sports in his spare time.

Job duties: Kevin oversees the newspaper’s news coverage.
Education: BA in mass communication from St. Bonaventure University, 1985.
About: Kevin took his first job out of college as a reporter at the Cortland Standard. After four years, he left to work for a year as a reporter and bureau chief at The Record in Troy, then eight years as a reporter at the Daily Gazette in Schenectady. He returned to the Cortland Standard as city editor in 1998 and was promoted to managing editor in 2000. Kevin and his wife, MaryBeth, are the parents of seven children.

Job duties: Jake covers the public safety beat and the towns of Cincinnatus, Harford, Lapeer, Virgil and Willet.
Education: Jake earned his bachelor of arts degree in journalism and communication of online media from Morrisville State College in 2015.
About: Jake joined the Cortland Standard in the spring of 2016. He grew up in Georgetown, Madison County, where he enjoys spending time with his family. In his spare time he enjoys reading, writing, listening to music, spending time outdoors fishing, hiking and camping, and watching New York Rangers’ hockey.

Education: Bob is a graduate of Dryden High School.
About: Bob has worked at the Cortland Standard since October 1986. He has won numerous awards from The Associated Press and The National Press Photographers Association.
He grew up in the Dryden area, where he resides with his wife, Wendy, and two cats. They enjoy summer drives in their 2000 BMW Z3M Roadster. Bob is an avid Yankees fan.

Job duties: Nick covers the education beat, including SUNY Cortland, Tompkins Cortland Community College and local education issues. He also covers Dryden, Freeville, Groton, Homer and Moravia.
Education: Master’s degree in automotive journalism from Coventry University, in England, and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Oswego State University.
About: Nick started as a reporter with the Cortland Standard in 2016. Before then, he worked as a freelance writer for various online and print publications. His enthusiasm for anything with four wheels and a motor took him to England to take part in a unique automotive journalism program. The leap across the pond was not only influenced by his love for cars, but due to an evolving passion for journalism, which he obtained during his time at SUNY Oswego. For the past 11 years Nick has raced cars on both asphalt and dirt tracks, claiming multiple wins and championships.

Job duties: Tyrone covers the city of Cortland, the villages of Homer and McGraw, and the towns of Cortlandville, Freetown, Homer, Solon and Taylor.
Education: Tyrone earned his associate degree in communications from Broome Community College in 2010 and graduated from SUNY Cortland in 2012, where he studied journalism and political science.
About: Tyrone started working at the Cortland Standard in May 2013. In his free time, he enjoys reading, writing, blogging, listening to music and watching the New York Mets.

Job duties: Katie writes community interest stories, focusing on non-profits, social clubs, seniors and children, literature and the arts.
Education: She has a master’s degree in education from SUNY Cortland and a bachelor’s in English from SUNY Oswego.
About: Katie has worked for the Cortland Standard for 19 years, starting as a typist in the composing room, and then covering the town of Homer, city and county government as a reporter, before assuming her current post around 2000. Before this, she was a self-employed day care provider, staying home with her two children, Kim and Mike, for five years. She loves biking, walking her two dogs, Sammy and Stub, cooking soup and reading a good novel. She grew up on Long Island.
TODD R. McADAM

Job duties: Todd McAdam is a columnist, investigative and enterprise reporter, and covers Cortland County government.
Education: BS in journalism, with a minor in sociology from Syracuse University.
About: McAdam, a 30-year communications professional, joined the Cortland Standard in November 2015. He has been an award-winning reporter and editor in Binghamton, a political aide and a freelance writer focusing on science and research. In his spare time, he is a “locavore” who creates recipes and meals from local foods, trains in and teaches karate, and continues writing about science and research.

Job duties: Photographic and illustrative coverage of regional news, sports and culture.
Education: Studied photography and photo-illustration at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.
About: Joe lived in all four corners of Ohio, working for newspapers in those areas, before migrating east to the Meadville (Pa.) Tribune, then farther east to the good food and good people of Cortland County. Professional claim to fame: photographed Cleveland Indians baseball during the summer of 2009 for the Elyria (Ohio) Chronicle-Telegram. When not driving through the countryside finding photographs, you can find Joe bringing his 1860s Italianate house in Groton back to its former glory, and updating to modern plumbing. His ambition is to retire from home renovating to take photos full-time while enjoying his home and his family.

Job duties: Catherine helps coordinate and edit local news coverage.
Education: BA in English and communications from Muhlenberg College, 2002.
About: Catherine, former county government reporter for the Cortland Standard, grew up in Pearl River, Rockland County, a suburb of New York City. She worked at newspapers in Rockland County and Bergen County, New Jersey, prior to coming to the paper. In her spare time Catherine enjoys reading, baking, watching movies, swimming, biking and competing in the occasional triathlon.

Job duties: Tom covers Homer Central and Interscholastic Athletic Conference teams.
Education: A.A.S. Degree from Herkimer County Community College, 1977.
About: Tom grew up in Afton and began writing for the Finger Lakes Community Newspapers covering IAC sports in 1985. He went to work as sports editor for the Tri-Town News in the fall of 1990, returning to his hometown area. He returned to the Finger Lakes Community Papers in 1993 as sports editor. Tom moved into radio as the sports director and play-by-play man for high school sports at WPIE Radio in Trumansburg from 1994-1998. He joined the Cortland Standard staff in the fall of 1999. Tom is married with two daughters and enjoys sports, music and family time.
Meet the display advertising department

Job duties: He manages the advertising sales staff, and is involved in planning and implementing special promotions and sections throughout the year. He also works with a number of major retail accounts.
About: Mike worked as an account representative at the Cortland Standard before becoming advertising manager in 1998. A past president of the New York Advertising and Marketing Executives, he now serves on the advisory board of that organization. He was the first president of the Cortland Downtown Business Association, and previously served on the Cortland County Convention and Visitors Bureau board and the marketing committee of the Cortland County United Way. He currently serves on the Cortland Free Library Board of Trustees.
In addition to his role as advertising manager, Mike oversees the Cortland Standard’s Newspaper in Education program. The newspaper’s NIE program provides free newspapers during the school year to area classrooms. Teachers are provided with opportunities to use the newspaper as a teaching tool and to improve literacy skills.
Mike and his wife Margaret are the parents of two grown children, Ben and Page. Mike enjoys travel, kayaking, and cross country skiing.

Job duties: Andrea serves as a marketing consultant to a variety of businesses and organizations.
About: Andrea has worked in the display advertising department of the Cortland Standard since July 1998, coming from an art background. In addition to the daily opportunity to be creative, her favorite part of working at the newspaper is the relationships she has built with her coworkers and loyal clients.
Originally hailing from the Bronx, Andrea moved to the area with her mother and stepfather in 1988 and attended Dryden High School. She then received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of Art & Design at Alfred University in 1996. She also took additional classes in typography and graphic design at Tompkins Cortland Community College, in order to be prepared for employment in the advertising world.
Andrea lives in Groton with her husband, Alan, their two sons, Bryce and Colin, who attend Groton Elementary School, as well as their two Labrador Retrievers, Murphy and Maggie. Family and work obligations leave little time for creating art… however, Andrea relishes her role as wife and mommy and is loving life!

About: Graduating with a BA in English from SUNY Cortland in 2009 and having lived and worked in the community for several years, Rachael joined the Cortland Standard display advertising team in the fall of 2015.
Prior to becoming an account manager, Rachael gained valuable experience by working with clients and agencies in the community. Rachael has worked for JM Murray/Employment Connection as a job coach, where she assisted individuals with finding and maintaining community employment. Rachael also worked for Cortland County’s Area Agency on Aging, matching retirees and senior citizens with volunteer opportunities.
Rachael takes pride in providing excellent customer service and brings dedication to all projects. In her spare time Rachael enjoys listening to music, photography, hiking, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.

Job duties: Mike serves as a marketing consultant to a variety of businesses and organizations.
About: Mike grew up in the Homer area and graduated from Homer High School in 1973. He furthered his education at Mohawk Valley Community College, where he earned his Associate Degree in 1975 in Banking and Business.
In 2007, Mike joined the Cortland Standard sales team, bringing with him more than 30 years of sales experience and a close connection to the Cortland community, most recently serving on the Board of Directors for The Family Health Network from 2012 through 2014. Mike served on the Cortland Bowling Association Board of Directors from 1978 through 1989 and was President of the CBA in 1988-89. He was honored as a recipient of the Rol Randal Achievement Award in 1989. Mike was further honored with election to the Cortland Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2004. Mike has also competed in 26 National Bowling Tournaments.
Mike enjoys bowling and golf and is married to Suzanne. They reside in Homer where they enjoy their new roles as “Mimi and Poppy” to their 6 grandchildren.

Job duties: Stacee serves as a marketing consultant to a variety of businesses and organizations.
About: Stacee Sholar has been a marketing professional with the Cortland Standard for the past 10 years. Stacee sells advertising to an existing client base and potential new advertisers. She manages accounts by developing and maintaining relationships with key decision makers. As an account manager, Stacee offers creative ideas as well as proposes a variety of budget options that best meet her clients needs. Stacee’s background in sales has helped her strategize with clients so they may achieve their goals.
Growing up, her grandfather was a small business owner in a small town. As a young girl, Stacee watched the way he treated his customers and his commitment to helping them. Being passionate about what you do was instilled in her from this experience and inspired her career into sales. Having first-hand knowledge of the challenges businesses may face give her a better understanding of how to better help them.
In addition to her role at the Cortland Standard, Stacee has served as Treasurer on the Cortland County Convention and Visitors Bureau. In her free time she relishes driving around in her MINI Cooper, named “ Ruby.” She also enjoys her early morning workouts with her husband, Steve. She has a son, Blake, who is a senior at Homer High School.

STEPHEN W. CLARK

Job duties: Stephen oversees the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the company.
About: Stephen started working at the Cortland Standard in October 2003 as a bookkeeper and legal clerk. He was promoted to business manager in 2011. He is an avid golfer and enjoys all sports, as well as family and friends.

Job duties: Sherry handles the collection of accounts receivable. As the office manager, she also directs calls and provides back-up for the business manager, circulation department and classified depatment as needed.
About: Sherry grew up in the rural town of Fabius, graduating in 1969.
Sherry has enjoyed working for the Cortland Standard for the last 19 years, starting as an accounts receivable clerk, and has been the office manager since 1999. She enjoys being a volunteer at the CNY Living History Center in her spare time. Sherry and her husband George can be found riding around in their Model “T” Ford truck. She and her husband have two grown sons and two grandsons with whom they enjoy spending family time.

About: Thom worked in Retail Advertising for 20 years at the Cortland Standard before becoming the Classified Manager. Grew up in Cortlandville and graduated high school from Homer in 1975. Thom has an AAS Degree in Criminal Justice from Tompkins Cortland Community College. He currently lives in the village of Homer, where he’s resided for the past 30 years. He has two grown daughters, and a grandson. He likes to listen to music and cook in his free time.

About: Gina grew up in Cortland, where she graduated in 1973 from Cortland High School.
She joined the staff of the Cortland Standard in August of 1973 working in the circulation department as a customer service representative and business office as a switchboard operator and receptionist. In 1998, she transferred to the classified department as a sales representative.
In 2014, she also took on the duties of legal clerk for the Cortland Standard.
Gina lives in Cortland with her husband Les (Skeeter) and in her spare time works as a bartender. She is self-employed as an independent Avon sales representative.

Job duties: Evan serves as editor and manages the operations of the newspaper.
Education: Born and raised in the city of Cortland, Evan began his career at the Cortland Standard in 2006 as a staff reporter after graduating from Bucknell University. As part of his management training, he later worked in each department at the newspaper in order to learn their various positions and responsibilities. He assumed the role of publisher in July 2013. He is the fifth generation of his family to be involved in the newspaper.
About: Evan enjoys the outdoors, whether camping, boating, fishing, hiking, running or skiing, as well as spending time on the St. Lawrence River with his family. At the home in Virgil that Evan shares with his wife, Jennifer, he listens to and makes music, reads, cooks and plays fetch with the couple’s Golden Retriever, Sully.
