OHSL Volleyball: Trojans capture 12th win

Homer Central posted its third straight volleyball win Thursday night.

The Trojans needed four sets to down Skaneateles in this OHSL Liberty Division match on their Homer Intermediate School home court.

Homer pulled out the first set 25-22 with Skaneateles taking the second set 30-28. The Trojans closed it out with 25-22 and 25-14 wins to improve to 7-2 in the Liberty American Division and 12-4 overall.

Those dozen victories matched the most wins in a fall season for the Trojans, who were 12-7 in 2014. The Lakers slip to 5-5 in Liberty National and 9-7 overall.

“We really battled through some bumps and bruises we have going on right now and dug deep for this one,” Homer coach Jeremy Cook said. “This is the second match this week that we had to play extra points and were still able to pull out the match.

“I am really pleased with how hard the team battled tonight,” he continued. “We faced some tough points and to overcome those is a nice thing especially at this point of the season. We did have too many unforced service errors, which could have helped put the match away much sooner. This is something we have to focus on and improve on.”

Meleah Hartnett battled a bit of a knee issue and still delivered 24 assists and nine digs. Deede Partigianoni had 12 kills and eight digs while Gillian McEvoy provided 10 kills and 11 digs. Lindsey Sovocool pitched in with 11 digs. Megan Guerrera notched 10 digs and two kills while Karly Roos added nine digs.

Mia Grosso led Skaneateles with seven kills and two blocks. Jessica Patalino added nine kills, five blocks and three aces with Sarah Delasin totaling six assists, five digs, three aces and two kills. Emma Goodell had a team high 34 digs and Cassidy Pitman provided a team high nine assists.

Homer will host Jordan-Elbridge Tuesday in the last regular season home match. It will also be Senior Night and activities will begin with the JV contest at 5 p.m.
