OHSL Volleyball: Homer seniors exit happy

Homer Central closed out the regular season with a convincing volleyball sweep of visiting Jordan-Elbridge on Senior Night at the Homer Intermediate School gymnasium.

The Trojans posted 25-7, 25-7, 25-18 set scores over the Eagles to finish at 8-2 in OHSL Liberty American Division play and 13-4 overall, the most wins in a single season for the Trojans in fall volleyball.

J-E completes the regular season at 8-11.

“This was a nice win tonight on Senior Night,” Homer coach Jeremy Cook said. “This group has been a part of the run last year to the section final and the group this year who has led us to the most successful regular season since we moved to the fall.

“Overall it was a great night to celebrate them and the success they have had in the program,” he continued. “I am thankful to be a small part of it and look forward to a push into sectional play.”

Meleah Hartnett paced Homer with 20 assists and two aces. Gillian McEvoy helped out with five kills, three aces and three digs with Deede Partigianoni delivering five kills. Cary Trierweiler provided four kills and four aces.

Renee Eggleston was the Jordan-Elbridge leader with five aces and four digs. Emily Klock added five digs, two kills and two aces.
Homer now awaits word on sectionals. The Trojans are anticipating a home match Friday to start the post-season off.

HOMER JVs closed out their season at 10-7 after losing 25-19, 24-26, 15-25 to Jordan-Elbridge Tuesday.

Emma McLaughlin topped Homer with six digs. Kaia Hubbard added five aces and three kills while Reagan O’Donnell had three aces and three assists. Other highlights for Homer included Marisa Cottrell (four assists), Meagan Tyler (three aces, two digs), Izzi Wallace (three aces, two digs) and Molly Grassie (two kills).

IN SECTION 4: Dryden High will be the sixth-seed when the Class B playoffs get underway next week. The Purple Lions (12-5) will travel to take on third-seed Norwich (9-5) in a 5:30 p.m. quarterfinal round match this coming Tuesday.

Owego Free Academy is the top seed and has a first round bye. Other quarterfinal matches have fifth-seed Oneonta (7-7) at fourth-seed Johnson City (8-6) while seventh-seed Waverly (9-7) visits second-seed Windsor (13-2).

Other top seeds in Section 4 are Corning (12-2) in Class AA, Vestal (12-2) in Class A, Tioga (17-0) in Class C and Unadilla Valley (11-4) in Class D.
