DRYDEN — A 54-year-old Dryden man died Tuesday night after he was struck by a vehicle on Turkey Hill Road in Dryden, state police said.

State police are investigating the accident that occurred about 7:10 p.m. Troopers were dispatched to Turkey Hill Road near Stevenson Road, where Varna Fire and Rescue crews were already assisting the victim and performing CPR.

Michael S. English, a resident of Turkey Hill Road, was identified as the victim, but police did not release the name of the driver, who was not ticketed.

An investigation revealed English was walking along the northbound side of the road pushing a bicycle when he was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by a 25-year-old Ithaca woman, police said. The driver stopped immediately and is cooperating with investigators.

English was walking in the lane of travel and left of the fog line, not along the shoulder, according to police. He was wearing dark clothes and the road is not lighted in the area.

The fog line and shoulder of the road were covered with snow and there were no bicycle or footprints in the snow, said Aga Dembinska, Troop C public information officer.

The road was wet and it was snowing at the time of the accident, Dembinska added. The road was straight with a grade where the accident occurred, nearly 800 feet north of Stevenson Road.

The town highway department could not be reached Wednesday to comment on the road conditions at the site.

The state police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene, Dembinska said. The investigation is continuing.
