No injuries were reported after a Jeep crashed Thursday afternoon into a Homer Central School District bus with 22 students aboard.
State police and Homer firefighters responded at 3:23 p.m. to Route 41 near Spencer Road in Homer, where police said a school bus that was slowing down to drop off students was rear-ended by a 2004 Jeep Liberty driven by Laura Ford, 37, of Homer.
Ford said she was distracted by her children in the car, according to a state trooper on scene.
Ford was ticketed for following the bus to closely.
The bus, driven by a 41-year-old man whose name was not provided, had 22 students ranging in age from 11 to 18 on board. Police said no injuries were reported.
Both vehicles were damaged, police said. The Jeep was towed from the scene.
The school district’s superintendent was notified and the students were put on another bus and taken home, police said.
Homer firefighters directed traffic in the area while the incident was investigated.
