The Homer Central girls’ volleyball team knows that no matter the records, Solvay plays tough when the two teams meet in OHSL Liberty American Division matches.

The Trojans and the Bearcats renewed their rivalry Thursday at Homer High School and Homer posted a 25- 12, 25-23, 21-25, 25-12 victory to improve to 4 -1 in league matches and 6-2 overall. Solvay falls to 1-4 in league and overall play.

“We had this match on our radar from the start of the season based on our crazy matches in the past,” Homer coach Jeremy Cook said. “They are always coached so well and we were prepared for a battle. We came out and played very well, limited our serving errors and really did a nice job siding out Solvay’s strong servers. Battling back in the second set to win close was nice to see our mental toughness in a big match. The third set started with a big let down and we were never able to catch up, but it was truly a blessing in disguise and we came out on fire in the fourth.”

“I was very pleased to see us refocus and be able to battle back after a tough third set loss,” he added. “Last season, we lost the last three sets to lose the match, so closing this match out tonight was a big win for us.”
