The Cortland High golf team had a good day overall as three Purple Tigers shot the same score and all advance to the Section 3 State Qualifier in the spring of 2020.
Landon Rozewski, Andrew Partigianoni and David Benjamin each shot rounds of 79 during the Section 3 Class A Championships at Radisson Greens Wednesday.
As a team, Cortland finished third with a total of 411. Jamesville-DeWitt won the team competition with a 397 total and Oswego edged the Purple Tigers for second place with a 407 total. Ryan Bartlett from Oswego placed second overall and first in Class A with a round of 73.
Nick Djafari just missed the 82 cut line with his 83 effort and Kooper Knabe rounded out the scoring five for the Purple Tigers with his 91. Joe Kane was Cortland’s sixth man after shooting 95.
“Even though we only got third, I’m very pleased with our score,” Cortland coach Yale Hughes said. “411 is the lowest score that teams that I’ve coached have ever shot. To have three players qualify to play in the State Qualifier in May is quite an accomplishment. David, Andrew and Landon all shot 79s and Nick was only one stroke off from making it to the next level. I’m also proud of the way Kooper scored. He’s only a freshman so he has three more shots at making the State Qualifier and I’m sure he’ll be successful. Although we are somewhat disappointed that we didn’t win sectionals, it would have been very difficult to beat J-D. They’re just too good.”
The Section 3 State Qualifier will be held at the Seven Oaks Golf Club at Colgate University in Hamilton.
