TULLY — The Cortland High boys’ cross country team posted a strong third place finish in the Varsity Large School race while Homer’s Emma Anderson placed second out of 92 runners in the Varsity Large School Girls’ race during the Tully Invitational Saturday.
The Purple Tiger boys totaled 116 points based on all five scoring runners being in the top 40 scoring wise. Homer placed eighth out of 10 teams with 183 points.
The Trojan girls were eighth out of 11 teams with 163 points in the Varsity Large School race. Cortland was incomplete.
LARGE SCHOOL BOYS
Fairport won the team competition with 26 points while Kaelan Ruder of Fairport was the race winner with a time of 16:30.4 among 77 runners.
Jared Valentin paced the Cortland boys, placing eighth overall with a time of 17:48.4. Joining Valentin in the scoring five were Joe Cataldo (18th) in 18:25.4, Ethan Lyle (24th) in 18:55, Asa Terwilliger (27th) in 19:07 and Luciano DeVito (42nd, 39th in scoring) in 20:04.2.
Also competing for the Purple Tigers were Noah Ryan (43rd, 40th scoring) in 20:01.9, Brady Pennock (53rd, 48th) in 21:01.4, Ford Egnor (56th) on 21:07.5 and Reagan Hillman (71st) 24:09.3.
For Homer, Jed Swayze placed 15th to lead the Trojans with his time of 18:09. Rounding out the Homer scoring five were Ethan Lowell (22nd) in 18:43, Ben Morenus (52nd, 47th) in 20:57.7, Tommy Mahunik (54th, 49th) in 21:02.7 and Jacob Dentes (57th, 50th) in 21:10.9.
Other Homer runners were Al- den Lowell (61st, 54th scoring) in 21:54.1, Sam Bieber (63rd, 56th) in 22:09.4 Colbi Johnson (70th) in 24:01.1 and Jonah Campos (72nd) in 24:25.7.
LARGE SCHOOL GIRLS
Grand Island and Central Square each finished with 57 points. Grand Island’s sixth runner placed 24th while Central Square’s sixth runner was 36th which was used as the tiebreaker.
Anderson posted her runner-up time of 20:08.4 as she only trailed race winner Rachel Ladd from East Syracuse-Minoa who ran the 3.1-mile course in 19:52. Joining Anderson in the Trojans’ team scoring were Jamiee Triolo (33rd) in 23:53, Becky Jones (40th) in 24:35.1, Jenna Johnston (43rd) in 24:36.5 and Lauren Walling (45th) in 24:44.7.
Also competing for Homer were Emily Gallagher (58th, 56th scoring) in 25:34.8, Lucia Caravella (62nd, 59th) in 25:50.6 and Madison Sciera (65th) in 26:23.2.
Abby Irvine was the only Cortland runner. Irvine placed 80th with a time of 30:29.3.
SMALL SCHOOL BOYS/GIRLS
DeRuyter sent Cathy Chapman to compete in the Varsity Small Schools. Chapman was 76th in 27:12 while Torrie Randall placed 91st in 33:18.7.
Noah Small ran for the DeRuyter boys. Smalls placed 88th with a time of 22:59.2.
