Dryden starts strong

The Dryden High boys’ and girls’ indoor track and field teams turned in a good season opening performance during the afternoon session of the 607 Invitational Saturday inside SUNY Cortland’s Lusk Field House.

For the girls, Teghan Garris took first place during the non-scoring meet in the shot put with a tossed of 32-feet-8 inches.

Other Purple Lion girls in the top six included Alex Brotherton (3rd, 8.06) in the 55-meter dash, Emma Park-Miller (5th, 8.24) in the 55m dash, Morgan Scales (3rd, 3:35.79) in the 1,000m run and fifth (5:47.14) in the 1,500m run), Naomi Cator-Szymanski (4th, 10.16) in the 55m hurdles, Kristina Busby (4th, 29-6) in the triple jump, Walaa Al Shoffe (5th, 28-3) in triple jump and Hollace Finver (6th, 14-3.5) in the long jump. The 800m relay team of Brotherton, Finver, Cator-Szymanski, Park-Miller) placed second with a time of 2:01.11.

For the Dryden boys, Steven Morrow won the 600m run in 1:32.57.

Also placing were George Murphy-Wilkins (2nd, 3:06.20) in the 1,000m run, Jackson Crocker (2nd, 10:50.71) in the 3,200m run and third in the 1,600m run (5:18.25), Jakob Greenwood (3rd, 1:33.41) in the 600m run, Bryant DePaull (4th, 9.86) in the 55m hurdles, Luke Maza (5th, 3:12.98) in the 1,000m run, Brad Hume (2nd, 5-10) in the high jump, Michael Cavanaugh (3rd, 34-8) in the shot put, Braedon Libbey (4th, 19-3) in the long jump, Aidan Kalousdian (5th, 5-4) in the high jump and Hiram Hackworth (5th, 34-5) in the shot put. The sprint medley team of Morrow, Kalousdian, Libbey and Greenwood took first place with a time of 3:48.69 while the same four guys finished first in the 800m relay after clocking 1:38.48.

–– Colin Morey was the top finisher for Groton in the 1 p.m. session as he placed 10th with a time of 13:05.39 in the 3,200m run. Jasmine Garrow was the top Groton girls in 14th place with a time of 59.43 in the 300m dash.

Marathon’s boys’ and girls’ competed in the morning session of the 607 Invitational with four top-six efforts.

Aliesha Howard took fourth place in the 3,000m run with her time of 12:19.30.
The girls’ sprint medley relay team of Paige Hurlburt, Brenna Keller, Emily Struempfler and Rylee Thomas placed sixth after a time of 5:41.72. The girls’ 800m relay team of Kaitlyn Boice, Hurlburt, Keller and Struempfler finished sixth after a time of 2:14.6.

For the boys, Jacob Pixley placed fifth in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 8-feet even.
