CINCINNATUS — Shakiah Glisson played a solid game Friday night and that helped the DeRuyter girls’ varsity basketball team collect a Central Counties League victory on the road.
The freshman scored 11 points in a balanced attack as the Rockets posted a 36-19 victory at Cincinnatus. DeRuyter improved to 2-2 in league play and 2-3 overall. The Lions slip to 0-3 in the league, 0-6 overall.
DeRuyter got off to a good start to grab a 13-5 lead in the first quarter. The Rockets doubled their points in the second quarter while holding Cincinnatus scoreless as the lead grew to 26-5. DeRuyter maintained its advantage in the third quarter before Cincinnatus cut into its deficit a bit in the fourth quarter.
Glisson netted five of her points in the second quarter while getting two points in the first, third and fourth quarters. Taylor Way added eight points, all in the first half, to the Rockets offense with six points coming from Terricka Glisson.
McKayla Maroney did all of the Cincinnatus scoring to finish with a game-high 19 points.
Both teams will return to action after Christmas. DeRuyter will compete in the Fabius-Pompey Tournament next Friday and Saturday. The Rockets will face the host Falcons Friday at 3:30 p.m. CCL rival McGraw will meet LaFayette at 2 p.m. in Friday’s first round. The consolation and championship games take place the next day.
Cincinnatus will return to action Jan. 7 with a non-league game against visiting Afton at 6:30 p.m.
