EAST SYRACUSE — The Cortland High girls’ varsity volleyball team had one of its stiffest tests to date when the Purple Tigers traveled to East Syracuse-Minoa Friday.

Cortland won in straight sets, but it was closer as the 25-15, 25-19, 25-22 scores showed. The Purple Tigers are 12-0 overall. The Spartans fall to 3-5.

“We got off to a bit of a sluggish start tonight,” Cortland coach Cheri Olson said. “This was our third match of the week so I was a bit nervous that the girls would lose their steam. Fortunately we were able to persevere and continue our winning streak.”

Kayci Olson would drive the Cortland attack with 18 kills and 12 digs. Grace Call had 22 assists and two digs. Lindsey Bush provided three kills and two aces. Alysha Wehnke added four digs and two kills while Lexi Zacek had three digs and two kills. Marissa Parzynski delivered five kills.

Olivia Fortuno had 12 kills, two digs and two aces to lead East Syracuse-Minoa. Ariana Costanzo dished out 19 assists along with seven digs. Alana Day provided 12 digs and four kills. Helaina Scolaro added eight digs and two kills while Skyler Mahoney recorded six kills and six blocks.

Cortland will be back on the court Monday when Faith Heritage comes to Shafer Gymnasium for a 6:30 p.m. non- league match. The JV match begins at 5 p.m.
