Seven local winners at invitational

Section 3-4 Indoor Track

The Cortland High, Homer, Groton and Marathon boys’ and girls’ indoor track and field teams competed in the It’s About Time Invitational at SUNY Cortland’s Lusk Field House.

Top six finishers in each event earned points for their respective teams. Lansing won the boys and girls titles with 129 and 100 points respectively. In the boys standings, Homer took second place with 99 points, Cortland (89 pts.) third, Marathon (23) fifth and Groton (2) seventh among seven scoring teams.

On the girls side, Cortland was third with 88 points, Homer (37) fourth, Marathon (16) fifth and Groton (7) seventh.

BOYS’ HIGHLIGHTS

Jed Swayze won two events for Homer. Swayze took first in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:49.40 and 600m run with a personal best time of 1:29.73. He also placed second in the 1,000m run in 2:51.69.

Jack Smith who ran a personal best time of 9.25 to win the 55m hurdles.

Tommy Mahunik won the 300m with a time (39.55) that qualifies him for the sectional championships. Mahunik also placed sixth in the long jump (16-feet- 2.5 inches.

Other Trojan place finishers included Ethan Lowell placed second in the 300m dash with a personal best time of 39.96 and he was third in the 55m hurdles (10.46). Adam Karam placed second in the triple jump (36- 2) and fourth in the long jump with a personal best of 17-1.5. Caleb Mulvaney placed second in the high jump (5-4) and fifth in the 55m hurdles (10.72). Connor McCloy placed second in the pole vault (9-0) and sixth in the 300m dash with a personal best time of 41.16. Logan Darling placed fifth in the shot put (30-5.25). The 4x400m relay team of Elijah Parker (1:07.5), Emmett Clarke (1:04.2), Justin Hanford (1:10.3) and Bryce Hoffmann (1:08.1) placed fifth in 4:30.17. Jarrod Flint placed sixth in the 55m dash with a personal best (7.35).

For Cortland, Jared Valentin placed second (4:54.98) in the 1,600m run. Luciano Devito took second place (1:30.75) in the 600m run and fifth (33- 6.25) in the triple jump. The 4x400m B team finished second (4:05.26). Noah Ryan was third (12:13.70) in the 3,200m run. Joe Cataldo placed third (5:07.89) in the 1,600m run and fourth (3:04.90) in the 1,000m run. Marquis Inman placed third (6.91) in the 55m dash, fourth (40.23) in the 300m dash and fifth (16-4) in the long jump. Matt Barber finished third (31-11.5) in the shot put. Geoff Marsted was fourth (7.24) in the 55m dash and fifth (40.82) in the 300m dash. Jake Gilbert took fourth place (12:13.80) in the 3,200m run. Ethan Lyle was fourth (10.70) in the 55m hurdles and fourth (5-0) in the high jump. The 4x400m relay team placed fourth (4:16.33). Brady Pennock was fifth (5:22.80) in the 1,600m run and sixth (3:13.50) in the 1,000m run. Jake Gilbert was fifth (1:43.74) in the 600m run. David Kelchner was sixth (1:45.90) in the 600m run. Matt Honan placed sixth (30-3) in the shot put.

For Marathon, Trenton O’Neil took first place in the long jump with a leap of 18-1.75 and he placed fifth (8-6) in the pole vault.

Other top six finishers were Thomas White placed second (12:10.10) in the 3,200m run. Jacob Pixley placed fifth (7.29) in the 55m dash and sixth (8-6) in the pole vault.

For Groton, Colin Morey placed fifth (13:15.40) in the 3,200m run.

GIRLS’ HIGHLIGHTS

Hannah McMasters broke 30 feet for the first time to place first in the shot put with a toss of 30-1.25 to qualify for the Section III State Qualifier.

Other Homer place finishers included Edie Russo who ran a personal best (48.06) to finish second in the 300m dash and she had a personal best (27-4) to place sixth in the triple jump. The 4x400m relay team of Julie McGory (1:05.9), Regan Gilfilian (1:13.6, PB), Becky Jones (1:11), and Russo (1:12.1) placed second with a time of 4:42.63. Camdyn Cole placed fourth (28-0.75) in the triple jump and fifth in the high jump (4-4). Maddy Cole ran a personal best (8.0) in the 55m dash to place fourth.

For Cortland, Ella Quick won the 300m dash with a time of 45.93 and Celeste Perkins won the triple jump with a distance of 32-6.

Other place finishers included Malana Booker took second place (7.92) in the 55m dash and second (4-10) in the high jump. Oumou Diakite was second (26- 1.25) in the shot put. Alexis Brown was third (6:20.49) in the 1,500m run. The 4×400 meter relay team placed third (5:03.51). Hannah Guernsey took third (29-9.25) in the triple jump. Bianca Hayes was fourth (49.11) in the 300m dash. Pearl Hettich was fourth (14-4.25) in the long jump and fifth (8.03) in the 55m dash. Morgan Zimmer took fifth place (24-7) in the shot put. Jazayah Herbert was sixth (8.11) in the 55m dash. Julia Spaziani claimed sixth place (11.37) in the 55m hurdles. Chaenaya Underwood finished sixth (49.92) in the 300m dash. Camilla Hayes was sixth (2;29.61) in the 600m run.

For Marathon, Kaitlyn Boice placed third (25-2.25) in the shot put. Aliesha Howard placed fourth (2:08.29) in the 600m run. The 4x400m relay team placed fourth (5:13.80). Rylee Thomas was fifth (2:25.48) in the 600m run.

For Groton, Emma Kennett placed third (7.93) in the 55m dash and sixth (13-10) in the long jump.

The Homer boys’ and girls’ indoor track and field teams will compete in the Bob Grieve Memorial Invitational Saturday at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena beginning at 9 a.m. Cortland High will compete in the 3 p.m. session of the Bob Grieve Memorial Invitational Saturday.

Groton and Marathon will join Dryden at the Section 4 Class Championships Friday at Ithaca College beginning at 5 p.m.
