The Cortland High girls’ varsity volleyball team has advanced to the Section 3 Class A semifinals.

The second-seeded Purple Tigers improved to 18-1 after a four-set victory over seventh-seed Whitesboro inside Shafer Gymnasium Thursday night. Cortland won by set scores of 25-22, 25-17, 21-25 and 25-18. Whitesboro nishes its season at 9-10.

“We finally get a sectional win against Whitesboro,” Cortland coach Cheri Olson said. “It seems like we always get matched up and they usually come out on top, so it is nice to be the victor for once. The girls played great tonight. We still need to clean up our game a lot for next week’s match up against either Chittenango or Watertown. We are going to continue to work hard and focus on what we need to in practice. We are focusing on one game at a time.”

Kayci Olson had another big match for Cortland with 18 kills, 17 digs and five aces. Grace Call handed out 35 assists with 18 digs and two kills. Tori Cruz delivered 16 digs and four aces. Lexi Zacek stepped up 13 digs and nine kills while Hannah Aldrich added 14 digs. Lindsey Bush had a balanced effort with six kills, four digs and two aces. Marissa Parzynski had three kills and three digs with Julia Guest pounding out three kills.

Cami Witchley had a solid match for Whitesboro with 19 assists and 14 digs. Kylee DeCarr had 19 digs, seven kills and two aces. Alex Butka recorded 16 digs, three aces and two assists. Kendal Dorozynski provided six kills and two digs with Yanna Pavlyukovets adding six kills. Karlie Cubino chipped in with nine digs, three kills and three aces. Kara Burnett finished with six digs and Olivia Anderson had three kills.

Cortland will host its semifinal match Tuesday. Sixth-seed Watertown (9-8) will travel to third-seed Chittenango (16-1) Monday for their 6 p.m. quarter final-round match. The other semifinal has top-seed Carthage (18-0) hosting fourth-seed New Hartford (16-1) Tuesday.
