Four local wrestlers have top eight seeds for the Section 3 Division II State Qualifier that gets underway Saturday inside Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena at 10 a.m.

Homer Central’s Sam Sorenson is the highest seeded wrestler. Sorenson (32-3) is the second seed at 220 pounds. Only Alex Thompson from Sherburne-Earlville is seeded higher with his 27-0 record.

Homer’s Jacob Rice (22-5) is the fourth seed at 120 pounds.

Luca Canzano is the highest Cortland High seeded wrestler. Canzano (14-16) is the seventh seed at 160 pounds with Homer’s Zander Johnson (21-16) right behind him as the eighth seed at 160 pounds.

Eight more wrestlers fall in the ninth to 14th spots on the list. This group will be seeded by draw so anything is possible.

Those wrestlers include the Homer contingent of Jeffrey Stauber (19-12) at 106 pounds, Jakob Denkenberger (15-14) at 152 pounds, Blair Wakula (12-14) at 170 pounds, Allan Markley (23-14) at 182 pounds and Tavyn Malchak (17-13) at 195 pounds.

The Cortland trio in the 9-14 group are Noah Wurst (21-15) at 145 pounds, Marcus Hines (19- 18) at 152 pounds and Jarrod Bush (18-15) at 170 pounds.

The winners in each weight class will make-up the Section 3 Division II squad for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany Feb. 28-29.
