ITHACA — It was a successful day for the Dryden High indoor track and field teams as five Purple Lions have advanced to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Athletic Complex on Staten Island March 7.

“What a day we had,” Dryden coach Lee Stuttle said. “Two school records and five kids going to states.”

Leading the way for the Purple Lions at Cornell University’s Barton Hall Saturday was Jakob Greenwood who qualified in two individual events. Greenwood won the boys’ 300-meter dash with a school record time of 36.03 seconds and he set a school record in the 600m run with a winning time of 1:23.10. Stuttle said that Greenwood would compete in the 600 at the state meet and not the 300. The two events are back to back on the state schedule of events.

Greenwood will joined his teammates from the 800m relay team as Aidan Kalousidan, Greenwood, Steven Morrow and Braedon Libbey won the event with a personal best time of 1:33.50.

The fifth member from Dryden advancing to the state meet is Teghan Garris after she placed second in the shot put with a toss of 35 feet, 9.75 inches.

Other top six efforts for the Purple Lions were Libey who was third in the long jump (20, 9) and fourth in the 55m dash (6.86), Bradely Hume was third in the high jump (5, 10), Kalousidan was sixth in the 55m dash (6.90), Morrow was sixth in the 600m run with a personal best 1:27.80 and Emily Miller was sixth in the 3,000m run (11:00.70).
