Police say man admits stabbing self

Medics take a man who was stabbed Wednesday afternoon in McGraw to a waiting ambulance.

A man who told police Wednesday he was stabbed Tuesday night in a McGraw house later said he accidentally stabbed himself while drunk, a Cortland County sheriff’s lieutenant said Thursday.

The man, whose identity has not been revealed, told investigators that he fell onto a knife, which isn’t what he said when he called 911 about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday.

The injury was serious enough to send the man to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for treatment, Lt. Todd Caufield said, but Caufield didn’t comment on the extent of the injury.

The man remained in the hospital Thursday afternoon.

The investigation is ongoing and an arrest for falsely reporting the incident may occur, Caufield said.

Medics from McGraw Fire Department, TLC Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.
