SYRACUSE — The Cortland High girls’ 1,600-meter relay team turned in the best team performance among the local Cortland and Homer competitors at the Section 3 State Qualifier inside Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena Tuesday.
The Purple Tiger quartet of Lillian Quick (1:05.28), Pearl Hettich (1:04.81), Maia Quick (1:08.21) and Ella Quick (1:01.88) finished in 4th place with a new school record time of 4:20.17. That time broke their previous record of 4:22.18 set during the Section 3 Class A Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 8 on the same SRC Arena track.
Homer Central’s Maddy Cole had the best individual finish. Cole placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 8 inches which broke the Trojans’ school record in the event.
For Cortland, Malana Booker tied for ninth place in the girls’ high jump by clearing the bar at 4 feet, 8 inches.
Oumou Diakite finished 20th in the weight toss with a heave of 32 feet even.
For Homer, the girls’ 1,600m relay team had a solid finish as Julie McGory (1:06.2), Maddy Cole (1:05, personal best), Camdyn Cole (1:06.5, PB) and Emma Anderson (1:05.3) were one spot behind Cortland in fifth place after a time of 4:24.06.
The Trojan boys’ 1,600m relay team of Tommy Mahunik (55.6), Connor McCloy (56.4), Ethan Lowell (56.7), Jed Swayze (54.8) took sixth place in 3:43.69.
Individually for Homer, Hannah McMasters took ninth place in the shot put with as best distance of 30 feet, 2.75 inches. Caleb Mulvaney tied for 10th place after clearing the bar at 5 feet, 6 inches in the high jump.
