Cortland County sheriff's Lt. Todd Caufield holds up crime scene tape this morning at the Cortland Motel on Route 11 in Cortlandville as police section off the area where a stabbing was reported. The victim has life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police were on the scene this morning of a stabbing on Route 11 near Polkville.

The victim was found at the Cortland Motel, 3832 Route 11, and taken by TLC Emergency Medical Services ambulance to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center with serious, perhaps life-threatening, injuries, Cortland County Sheriff’s Capt. Rob Derksen said about 9 a.m.

Details were unavailable, but police promised more by mid-afternoon.

At the scene, two sheriff’s officers were securing the site at each end of the strip-style motel. A single door was open to a room, but the entire motel was cordoned off.

The motel is just west of Interstate 81’s Exit 10 and about two miles east of the city of Cortland.

Since mid-2017, the motel has been home to several police incidents.

A man pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, accused in September 2017 of making methamphetamine in his room.

Another person was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance in December 2017, and a patron was charged in February 2018 with criminal mischief, accused of causing $150 in damage over a dispute about his room charge.
