While hitting the links was a welcome diversion and a way of practicing social distancing, all of the local golf courses are now closed after New York state Gov. Andrew Cuomo deemed golf courses as non-essential Thursday.
The executive order will prohibit anyone from playing golf until April 29, but it doesn’t mean you won’t see some folks still on your favorite course. Each course is still allowed to maintain its course which means mowing the tees, fairways, greens and other work needed so that the courses are still ready to go when the ban is lifted.
There was still a question as to whether league play was going to begin on time and that was still up in the air because of the mass gathering restrictions imposed by state and national officials. The April 29 date will coincide with the week that some leagues were going to start.
