CHS names senior award winners

The Cortland High athletic department has announced its Class of 2020 senior athletics award winners.

  • 2020 Senior Plaques are presented to seniors who competed on a varsity sport during their senior year and have received at least four total varsity letters or three varsity letters in one sport during their athletic career at Cortland.

This year’s recipients are Hannah Aldrich, Kathyrn Aumick, Lyndise Babock, Emma Baum, David Benjamin, Jennicah Brown, Lindsey Bush, Grace Call, Gildon Case, Tori Cruz, Elizabeth Decker, Heather Decker, Diakite Oumou, Nicholas Djafari, Tora Edwards, Gabriella Fowler, Jacob Gilbert, Marissa Gilmore, Donovan Hartnett, Pearl Hettich, Joseph Kane, Shyanne Lewis, Nickolas Litzenberger, Ethan Lyle, Andrew McCormick, Ethan Myers, Kayci Olson, Kaitlyn Pratt, Lillian Quick, Abigail Ricottilli, Landon Rozewski and Noah Ryan

  • The John A. Gee Scholar Athlete Award is presented to a senior boy and girl who has the highest rank of those who qualify for a Senior Plaque.

This year’s recipients are Lillian Quick and Jacob Gilbert

  • The Robert Fragnoli Award is named in honor of Mr. Fragnoli, a former teacher, coach and principal of the Cortland School District. It is presented to a senior boy or girl who is a multi-sport athlete at Cortland High who exhibits the qualities of an “unsung hero.”

This year’s recipients are Morgan Zimmer and David Benjamin.

  • The William C. Maher Award was established by the friends and relatives of the late William C. Maher, a member of the class of 1925 and a veteran of World War I who had a distinguished career in high school and college as a baseball and football player. It is presented to a senior boy who plays football and baseball at CHS. This year’s recipient is Gildon Case. n The Norma Riley Award is named in honor of former coach and director of physical education Norma Riley. It is presented to a senior girl who is a multi-sport athlete who has had an outstanding career while representing CHS.

This year’s recipient is Grace Call.

  • The Ross O. Shafer Award is named in honor of former director of physical education and athletics Ross O. Shafer. It is presented to a senior boy who is a multi-sport athlete who has had an outstanding career while representing CHS.

This year’s recipient is Ethan Myers.

  • The Jamie Brown and Moe White Award is presented to a multi-sport senior varsity athlete with high honors on both the field and in the classroom. The participant is a leader of their team on and off the field and is attending college to pursue their athletic dream.

This year’s recipient is Kayci Olson.

  • Outstanding Runners: Pearl Hettich and Noah Ryan
  • CHS Athletic Booster Club Sportsmanship Award: Kaitlyn Pratt and Ben Hay.
  • Senior Physical Education Award: Julia Spaziani and Ethan Myers.
  • Athletic Booster Club Award: Tori Cruz and Martin Monroe.
  • Athletic Director’s Award: Hannah Aldrich, Kathryn Aumick, David Benjamin, Grace Call, Heather Decker, Oumou Diakite, Gabriella Fowler, Jacob Gilbert, Pearl Hettich, Shyanne Lewis, Ethan Lyle, Ethan Myers, Kaitlyn Pratt, Lillian Quick, Noah Ryan, Julia Spaziani, Connor Tierney, Cody Wilk, Morgan Zimmer.
