An 18-year-old man was stable in a hospital this morning after being shot about 1 a.m. near the Cortland County Office Building on Central Avenue in Cortland, city police said.
Police responded about 12:52 a.m. to the area near 60 Central Ave. for a report of multiple shots fired.
When they arrived, they found the man, who had been shot once, police said. They provided first aid until TLC Emergency Medical Service ambulance and Cortland firefighters arrived.
The victim was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he was stable this morning.
Police investigators said shots were fired in the street near Church Street and Central Avenue following a fight earlier in the evening at a city residence, Lt. Michael Strangeway said in a news release. No other injuries were reported.
