Cortland braves elements in victory

The Cortland Purple Tigers boys’ golf team beat East Syracuse-Minoa, 221-235, on a windy and chilly Wednesday at Willowbrook.

Cortland was led by Andrew Partigianoni (39) and Kooper Knabe (42).

“I am really proud of the way we played today,” Cortland head coach Nolan Sinclair said. “Our new goal as a team is to shoot around 220 as we feel that score gives us a great shot to win each and every match. We knew it wouldn’t be easy as we needed to shave 15-20 strokes off our previous team score, but it was doable. The boys have worked very hard at their games and it showed today.”

As a team, Cortland was able to post a score of 221 in poor conditions, and each of the top six players posted 49 or better.

“This is a great group of young men. They are passionate about both their individual scores [and] also the team. Our chemistry is outstanding.”

Cortland’s next match is a big one against Jamesville-DeWitt Friday.
