The DeRuyter Rockets boys and girls soccer teams both picked up wins to kick off their weekends.
DeRuyter 6, Brookfield 2
Gavin Richardson scored a hat trick in the first half and tacked on two more goals in the second half to help the Rockets pull away from Brookfield.
Lenny Escobar had the other Rockets goal with five minutes remaining in the game. Daniel Hathaway had two assists, and Leland Seamans, Dylan Skeele, Ben Barnes and Cam Daley each had one assist.
“We did a very good job of starting fast and putting some goals on the scoreboard early, jumping out to a lead,” Rockets coach Matt Skeele said. “I will give Brookefield a lot of credit, though, as they played with no subs and fought back and knocked two in before halftime to make it a game. In the second half, we just kept too much pressure on and eventually were able to pull away. Our defense did a great job, along with Tristan in goal, in really locking down their striker and minimizing the number of chances he got and the quality of those chances.”
DeRuyter 3, Brookfield 1
Brianna Hannafan scored her second penalty kick goal of the season and Keely Worlock and Peytin Burrows also scored as the Rockets got the Saturday morning win.
Kelsey Brown and Alynna Kanaby split time in the net for DeRuyter. Brown had two saves and Kanaby had three.
The Rockets had an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal, but Brookfield had a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.
