Homer girls lacrosse team humbles J-E

JORDAN — The Homer Trojans girls lacrosse team’s last game was on May 21, 2019, when they suffered a scathing 21-7 defeat at the hands of South Jefferson in the NYSPHSAA Section III Class D quarterfinals.

They exorcised those demons in a big way Thursday in the wind, rain and fog with a 21-3 victory over the Jordan-Elbridge Eagles in the season opener at Jordan-Elbridge High.

The Roos sisters, Kloey and Annika, powered the Homer offense, combining for 10 goals, while also getting help from Leanna Peck and Lauren Walling, who each scored hat tricks.

Kloey Roos’ finest goal of the night came with 7:17 left in the first half when she was 1-on-1 with Eagles goalie Gabrielle Skotniski, and scored with a backhand flick behind her head.

Gabrielle Gullip was the lone bright spot for the Eagles, scoring a hat trick.

The Trojans (1-0) won 23 out of 26 draws, and scored almost immediately off of five of them. They are off until Tuesday when they visit Cazenovia.

The Marathon Olympians track team traveled to Lansing High Thursday for a dual meet with Lansing and Union Springs.

The Marathon girls fell to Lansing, 84-6, and defeated Union Springs, 36-13. The Marathon boys were defeated by Lansing, 74-19, and by Union Springs, 41-34.
