Marathon, Cincy win ahead of clash

The Marathon Olympians will host the Cincinnatus Lions in girls soccer action at 4:30 p.m. today. Before their matchup, they each piled on the offense in the poor conditions Wednesday afternoon.

Marathon 4, Watkins Glen 0

The Olympians won their season opener in the steady rain thanks to two goals from Paige Hurlburt and a goal and an assist from Brooke Tillotson.

Lindsay Courtney had the final Marathon goal on an assist from Anna Hoyt, and Delta Barber chipped in two assists. Kendre Euson had a four-save clean sheet.

The Olympians (1-0) outshot Watkins Glen 25-7, while corner kicks were even at four.

Cincinnatus 12, Tully 2

Tully’s Emma Byrne scored two goals, including the first of the match in the fifth minute to put her squad ahead, but Kyla Sustad responded with five goals in the next 25 minutes and eight overall to go with two assists as part of a season opening blowout win for the Lions.

Also filling up the scoresheet for the Lions were Jarisa Temple (goal, four assists), Cassia Schuyler (goal, assist), Emma Finch and Courtney Scutt (goal each).

The Lions (1-0) outshot Tully 27-4 and earned seven corner kicks. Gabriella Taylor made two saves for the Lions.


East Syracuse-Minoa 3, Cortland 0

Amber Zillinskas had two goals and Jenna Orlando had one score as the Spartans blanked the Purple Tigers in the season opener for both teams.


Homer 3, Cazenovia 0

The Trojans swept the Lakers by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-14.

Lily Sorenson had five kills and four digs, Kayla Miller had four kills and seven digs, Mya Updike had 21 assists and seven digs, Keira Miller had six kills and eight digs and Mallory Douglas had a team-high 26 digs.


Homer 217, Mexico 262

The Trojans (1-2) had the top four scores — Mitch Riter and Lukas Quinn each with 40, and Jacob Roebush and Tanner Douglass each with 43 — as they picked up their first win of the season.
