FAYETTEVILLE — Though the Cortland High golf team had a solid day overall during the NYSPHSAA Section III Class A Championships at Green Lakes State Park Golf Course, the Purple Tigers were unable to send anyone to the Section III State Qualifier this fall.
Andrew Partigianoni just missed the cut by one stroke, as he shot a round of 83. Kooper Knabe shot an 84, Ethan Hay shot an 88, Carter Baum shot 90, Caden Congdon a 94 and Finn Thomas finished things off with a 97.
As a team, the Purple Tigers finished fourth overall with a score of 439. Jamesville-Dewitt won the team competition and Jackson Saroney of the Red Rams finished with the best round overall, shooting a 72.
Though the Purple Tigers were unable to send anyone to the state qualifier, their performance was nothing to be ashamed of.
“We are a little disappointed that we didn’t have anyone qualify for the state qualifiers but overall, really pleased with how the boys played and how the season went,” Purple Tigers head coach Nolan Sinclair said. “Having to walk 18 holes can be a grind, so I was very pleased with the way they conducted themselves. I thought that they did a really good job dealing with the pressure of the sectional tournament. We had three guys in the 80s which is outstanding.”
Sinclair spoke highly of his team and everything they have brought to the table during his time as head coach of the Purple Tigers.
“Really can’t say enough about the guys; they are great individual golfers, outstanding teammates and fantastic young men. They have great futures ahead of them,” he said. “The program is better off because they were a part of it.”
