EVAN GEIBEL

Job duties: Evan serves as editor and manages the operations of the newspaper. Education: Born and raised in the city of Cortland, Evan began his career at the Cortland Standard in 2006 as a staff reporter after graduating from Bucknell University. As part of his management training, he later worked in each department at the newspaper in order to learn their various positions and responsibilities. He assumed the role of publisher in July 2013. He is the fifth generation of his family to be involved in the newspaper. About: Evan enjoys the outdoors, whether camping, boating, fishing, hiking, running or skiing, as well as spending time on the St. Lawrence River with his family. At the home in Virgil that Evan shares with his wife, Jennifer, he listens to and makes music, reads, cooks and plays fetch with the couple’s Golden Retriever, Sully.

TODD R. McADAM

Job duties: Todd oversees the newspaper’s news coverage. Education: BS in journalism, with a minor in sociology from Syracuse University. About: McAdam, a 30-year communications professional, joined the Cortland Standard in November 2015. He has been an award-winning reporter and editor in Binghamton, a political aide and a freelance writer focusing on science and research. In his spare time, he is a “locavore” who creates recipes and meals from local foods, trains in and teaches karate, and continues writing about science and research.

KEVIN CONLON

Job duties: Kevin helps coordinate and edit local news coverage. Education: BA in mass communication from St. Bonaventure University, 1985. About: Kevin took his first job out of college as a reporter at the Cortland Standard. After four years, he left to work for a year as a reporter and bureau chief at The Record in Troy, then eight years as a reporter at the Daily Gazette in Schenectady. He returned to the Cortland Standard as city editor in 1998 and was promoted to managing editor in 2000. Kevin and his wife, MaryBeth, are the parents of seven children.

PAUL CIFONELLI

Job duties: Planning and reporting on sports in the greater Cortland area, including high schools, colleges and recreation leagues. Education: Paul graduated from SUNY Brockport Honor College in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a concentration in multimedia journalism, and a minor in mathematics with a concentration in statistics. About: Paul has been working in the field since 2018. He joined the Cortland Standard in June 2021. He is a sports reporter by nature who has been involved in all types of athletics his whole life. In his free time, Cifonelli practices mixed martial arts and golfs and enjoys cooking, traveling and exploring new areas.

KATIE KEYSER

Job duties: Katie writes community interest stories, focusing on non-profits, social clubs, seniors and children, literature and the arts. Education: She has a bachelor’s in English from SUNY Oswego and a master’s of art in Teaching from SUNY Cortland. About: Katie has worked for the Cortland Standard since 1996, starting as a typist in the composing room, and then covering the town of Homer, city and county government as a reporter, before assuming her current post around 2000. Before this, she was a self-employed day care provider, staying home with her two children, Kim and Mike, for five years. She loves playing blocks with her grandson, Cy, pickleball and playing Rummy 500 with husband, John Busch. She grew up on Long Island.

BRIAN BOSCH

Job duties: Brian oversees website content; designsr Celebrate and special publications; helps with production of daily paper; and writes a biweekly column, “Slice of Life.” Education: Graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a degree in English. About: Brian began at the Cortland Standard in 2004 as a part-time typist in 2004. From endless bowling scores and obituaries, he’s learned how several departments operate and experienced much of what a local newspaper has to offer. Outside of work, Brian enjoys good food, good music and bad sports teams. Born and raised in the area, he has a lifelong love of Central New York’s beauty.

VALERIE PUMA

Job duties: Valerie covers Cortland County government, the towns of Dryden, Groton and Moravia, and health. Education: She received bachelor’s degrees in 2020 in political science and English literature and rhetoric from SUNY Binghamton. About: Originally from the Gulf Coast of Texas, Valerie moved to New York in 2016 to attend college. She joined the Cortland Standard in spring 2021, following a year-and-a-half working as a multimedia journalist and producer at WICZ Fox 40 News in Binghamton. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, reading, watching movies, listening to music and exploring new areas.

SARAH BULLOCK

Job duties: Sarah oversees coverage of police and court news, education and the town and village of Homer. Education: Sarah has a bachelor’s degree in English from Binghamton University in 2012 and a master’s degree in English from SUNY Cortland in 2021. About: Sarah joined the Cortland Standard in November 2021, and previously worked at the Standard from 2012 to 2015. She’s a curious people person with a penchant for Agatha Christie novels and cats.

Job duties: Matt covers athletics, particularly Cortland, Marathon, Dryden, Groton and SUNY Cortland. Education: Matt received a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in sports studies from SUNY Oswego in 2020. About: Matt joined the Cortland Standard in September 2021. He hopes to continue to build his experience in sports media with hopes at one day covering sports at the professional level. He is a Broome County native who grew up in Binghamton. In his spare time, he enjoys listening to music, traveling, watching sports (mostly the Yankees), exercising and spending time with his dog, Zeke.

She has a strong background in non-profit, grant funded accounting and finance. She enjoys cooking, reading books and decorating.

ANDREA WILKINSON

Job duties: Andrea creates the daily ad plan and dummies for the Cortland Standard editions, determining where each display ad is placed throughout the newspaper. She also handles the page layout for the daily classified page and will soon be learning and taking on additional pagination duties. Andrea is also an account manager for a number of display advertisers and also coordinates traffic and billing for all the newspaper’s insert advertisers. About: Andrea has worked in the display advertising department of the Cortland Standard since July 1998, coming from an art background. In addition to the daily opportunity to be creative, her favorite part of working at the newspaper is the relationships she has built with her coworkers and loyal clients. Originally hailing from the Bronx, Andrea moved to the area with her mother and stepfather in 1988 and attended Dryden High School. She then received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of Art & Design at Alfred University in 1996. She also took additional classes in typography and graphic design at Tompkins Cortland Community College, in order to be prepared for employment in the advertising world. Andrea lives in Groton with her husband, Alan, their two sons, Bryce and Colin, who attend Groton Elementary School, as well as their two Labrador Retrievers, Charlie and Maggie. In her spare time, Andrea still loves to create art, both for their home as well as commissioned house and pet portraits.

KYMM DEVLEN

Job duties: Kymm serves as a marketing consultant to a variety of businesses. Education:Kymm attended the New England School of Art and Design. About: Kymm joined the Cortland Standard in August 2021. She returned to her home town of Cortland from Boston, where she started her own business and raised a family. Kymm’s favorite part of the job is meeting new clients and learning what the community has to offer. In her free time, Kymm enjoys listening to music, baking, gardening and creating art.

Job duties: Will directs the newspaper’s production department, which includes the press room; he’s also responsible for circulation, customer service and the building facility. Education:Will has a bachelor’s degree in communication from SUNY Oswego. About: Will’s career spans 30 years and four newspapers, including The Citizen in Auburn, the Daily Sentinel in Rome and the Post-Standard in Syracuse. He has been a member of the New York State Circulation Management Association since 1997 and won the Charles Latus Outstanding Newcomer Award in 1998. Will and his wife, Lisa, have two children and live in Camillus.

JESSICA BAKER

Job duties: Jessy is the first person to greet you at the front door of the newspaper and answers incoming phone calls. She can help answer any question regarding your subscription, including moving your delivery to a new address or to your seasonal home. Jessy can also help you if you would like to pay for your subscription over the phone. Education:Jessy has a bachelor’s degree in human development from SUNY Oswego. About: In her free time, Jessy designs jewelry, enjoys painting and is a practicing Reiki master.
