It was not a great day, but Homer Central still found its way to a second straight OHSL Freedom National Division victory Thursday.
Noah Goddard shot his second straight round of 41, this time on his home Cortland Country Club layout, to lead the Trojans to a 228-245 win over visiting Mexico. Goddard qualifies for the Section 3 Individual Tournament with that five-over par round as Homer improves to 2-0 in league and overall play. The Tigers fall to 0-2 league and overall.
“Not a great day at home but we’ll take it,” Homer coach Sean Malone said. “It’s early in the season. The kids are still getting use to playing matches and the unfamiliarity of playing with people you don’t know. We just didn’t have our best today, but were glad we got the win.
“Noah Goddard played well as our low man,” he continued. “He finished the final four holes in even par to post his second qualifying score of the year automatically moving him into sectionals.”
Ethan Stile was next among the Homer scoring five with his 44. Brent McNeil carded a 45, Mike Turck 48 and Louis Nardis (50). Ryan Angell was the Trojan sixth man with a 52.
Ron Marsden and Zack Revette shot matching 45s to led Mexico. Dakota Deasy (50), Jack Ryan (52) and Ryan Mosher (53) rounded out the scoring for the Tigers
Homer will travel to Willowbrook Golf Club Monday to face Cortland High starting at 11 a.m.
