The McGraw baseball team fell to 1-3 in the Central Counties League record and 3-4 overall Friday in an 11-5 loss visiting Stockbridge Valley.
The Cougars’ softball team also came to McGraw and left with a 27-5 victory. At Knickerbocker Country Club, the McGraw golf team totaled 274 and won by forfeit over an incomplete DeRuyter squad.
Stockbridge Valley 11, McGraw 5: The Cougars scored six runs in the first two innings and went on from there to improve to 5-3 in league play and 6-3 overall. McGraw made it a 7-3 game with a three-run third inning but could get no closer. Brendan May went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run for the Eagles and Evan Ignatowski had a single and scored twice as well as earning praise from coach Abe Johnson for an effective relief outing, giving up five hits and no earned runs in 3 2-3 innings with two strikeouts.
Jared Couture went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a run for Stockbridge Valley while Wyatt Becker went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs.
“Every time we take one step forward, it seems we take two steps back,” Eagles coach Abe Johnson said. “We need to play a complete game and we have yet to do that.”
McGraw was to face Richfield Springs today at 3 p.m. in a non-leaguer at the Class D Clash in Brookfield before visiting Madison Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Stockbridge Valley 27, McGraw 5: Jade VanWagenen (two RBIs, two runs), Bryanna Cook and Lexi Stiles had one hit each for the Eagles (1-3 league, 1-4 overall) as Jillian Jacobs and Kelley Greene combined on a three-hitter.
Jacobs went 4-for-5 with a triple, six RBIs and a run scored for the Cougars (5-0, 7-2), who had 10 hits in all and benefited from 12 walks and some Eagle miscues.
McGraw visits Madison Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
McGraw over DeRuyter, forfeit: The Eagles, now 2-1 league and overall, were led by Caleb Knickerbocker’s 46 and Ric Smith’s 48. Chris Dwyer totaled 53, Tristin McGuinness had 62, Brett Potter totaled 65 and Brandon Jones carded a 70.
McGraw visits Stockbridge Valley Wednesday at Baker Brook Golf Club.
David Cox led the Rockets with a 49 while Nate DeGear had a 52, Nick Whitmarsh a 62 and Will Pilcher a 63.
